I love my strings behind the frets...

You know I play Entwistle-style.
And he always said: I love my strings to be behind my frets....
With no wood bass neck this is possible, but with a graphite one, no problem.
And it still sounds, no problem. No buzzing, nothing.
The E string has only very limited space and when you hear it un-amplified it
sounds like: ..almost dead...
But with the bass plugged into the amp it goes: T H U N D ER
I donĀ“t know if any "normal" bass player would be comfortable with this action.
But for me doing all the Entwistle stuff, it is the best....

I slap a lot and use thin strings and lowest action. It's so low that I still have to find another player able to play it without buzz! :D
On my formerly owned S2000 the strings really were closest to fingerboard. A graphite neck helps a lot since it doesn't move (or moves less) and the nice fretjob on Status basses allows you to use low actions without buzz.
In theory a thinner string should allow you to use a lower action, since a string with less mass has a smaller vibration space. In fact guitars can use lowest action.
Ultra-low action "eats" a part of the tone but give you better playability and speed. It's just a matter of needs and tastes. I'd never buy a bass that can't allow a lowest action. This is harder to find on 5-6 strings, since the LowB is usually "sloppier" and needs an higher action to vibrate freely. Luckily I use 4 strings but I've had 6ers, 5ers and a 7 too in the past!
