Monorails are nice, but I'm such an '80s guy, so for me old school all the way.

I don't remember you you being allowed in. I gave strict instructions to those doormen. Damn... Wait a minute, where's the family silver gone??

Nah, the choices should be between this:

I agree with Fat Rich. Those old small heads are soooo nice!.... For me, small head with the tilt like the new ones.

By the way, we're not allowed to use the word 'fat' any more... It's offensive!!

He's now 'Rotundly Challenged' Rich

Thank you

Headless referred to as old school. :)

I'm a headless bass all the way person. And as monorails allow for different string spacing, and come wrapped up with my favourite: the bendwell. I'm all for the modern approach.

What are these things. They must be alien.

I have always had a soft spot for the original style tuners. They just set the bass off so much more. It also gives greater promenance to the Status name more than the newer basses.

I myself enjoy the headless form factor. Lighter, compact, more ability to move around a small stage without banging the headstock into anything, and string changing is fast and easy with double ball strings. I have never used the older style tuners, just the monorail. The one thing that I wish someone could invent is a 'D-Tuner' type monorail device so I can drop E to D or B to A# on a 6 string. I remember Kubicki basses had the clever and efficient flip switch at the nut end, but I think those basses were medium scale only as a result. The Hipshot D-Tuner is another well designed device which I have on all my headed basses, very easy to install without any mods and a breeze to use. I am hoping someday that a direct replacement monorail D-tuner will come about(I've thought about it, but I am not an engineer). Then it would be headless all the way for me.

Michael Manring's Zon Hyperbass has a detuning bridge (in addition to detuners on each string on the headstock) so it must be possible, and Steinberger make the Transtrem for guitars.

It should actually be pretty easy to make a detuning monorail tuner, perhaps Moo (our tame inventor) could look into it?
