Just managed to get hold of a complete Marcus Miller Jazz body, and just ordered a Status Jazz neck to go on it.

Happy Boy !

Build should be complete in about three weeks

It would be nice to hear what kind of sound you pull out. I hope you're not after the Marcus one.

You might want to consider changing the Fender preamp, it sounds pretty harsh to my ears. I run mine through an old Sadowsky preamp and it adds loads of warmth and fatness without losing the clarity.

+1

I bought an external Sadowsky preamp pedal so I can use it with otters passive basses too. It's a great toy!

without the risk of sounding daft, doesn't the fender MM jazz have a sadowsky preamp built in? Is it an active bass?

It has 2-band active electronics. But I don't think it's from Sadowsky. I mean... for what reason. Sadowsky "Jazz-Basses" are of higher quality then the original ones:D

I agree with Totsch on Sadowsky JBs.

Danny the MM signature comes with a Fender preamp, IMHO a much lower quality preamp.

GET OUT

I refuse to be a part of a forum that says ANYTHING made by Fender is 'lower quality'! Do you realise that some of the driftwood they use could have saved someone from drowning? No, you just didn't think!

How very dare you!

Why do you think I have my '78 JB? In my area flash flooding happens often plus it makes it a good self defense weapon, even if its preamp is not great!
...oh, I forgot, unlikely any other bass, increases in value B)

My 20 year old battered Japanese Fenders seem to be worth about 3 times what I paid for them, all very strange for two planks screwed together.

They sound pretty good in an agricultural kind of way but I spend half my time taking the necks off to adjust the truss rod because the necks move so much depending on temperature / moisture / pressure / time of day / seismic activity / lunar cycle / some other random event. :@

These old Fenders are really a strange phenomena.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Just got back after a weeks holiday. I'm going to see what it sounds like once it's bolted together, than maybe get a Sadowsky pre for it. Getting the body tomorrow, and then the neck should be here next week. Maybe going to take all the bit's to Jon Shuker to piece together for me to make sure it's right.
I want to make sure it's going to be a keeper before I throw any more money at it though.
I always fancied a Jazz or a Stingray with a Status neck on it. Bass Direct had a nice Stingray a few months ago with a Status neck on it that I just missed.
I just never imagined dropping onto a Marcus Jazz body though. It should sound superb.

Neck's finally arrived. It's off to Shuker at the weekend to have the neck put on. I may add a drop tuner on it as well.
