FWIW

I spoke to the previous owner and apparently the original Status preamp had crapped out for whatever reason. The Bart works well, though, and actually does a better job of maintaining the Status character when rolling back to the bridge pickup. I've noticed the Stealth develops a nasal bite when attempting the same. So be it.

If you run into trouble with the Bart you could try an Aguilar OBP-3. I fitted one in an Energy and Trev (G-77) fitted one into his Series 3000. We were both very impressed with the tones on offer.

Another excellent pre-amp is the U-Retro but they are a bit pricier.

I know I'm running this thread into the ground...

I traded a PBC 5 for the Energy with the full intention of using it as my beater bass (gasp!). Despite the rough edges, she plays well and sounds great. I'm reluctant to sink any $$$ into the project unless something really goes belly-up.
