I picked up a beautiful used Empathy several months back (posted a thread complete with pix shortly after the acquisition), and I really love this baby!

Anyway, I contacted Rob to get additional information on it, and one thing he told me it "was made in May 2007 and would have the "Series-2" circuit fitted.". I'm not quite sure what that means...can anyone shed some light on this? I really like the mid-sweep onboard. It's quite a different setup than my other (non-Status) basses, as those typically have a 3-position switch to select which of 3 frequencies you can select and adjust each of those frequencies, accordingly. What's so cool about this is that the mids are far more flexible, and the 3-position selector allows a pre-set 6db cut or boost, or flat. This is standard for a Status 3-band eq, isn't it?

Is it that the eq is a 3-band eq? Are the mids voiced differently? If so, what are the specifics? How does it differ from other Status 3-band preamps? What was the "standard" 3-band eq on the Empathy?

RAM,

I assume you are referring to this bass.

I'll try answer your questions:

It means that your bass has a 3 band EQ circuit (aka Series-2 circuit). On the Status-Graphite web site look On-line shop/Active circuits.

It was the standard circuit for earlier Series-2 and Empathy basses. Now the standard circuit is the Board 300/301/302.

Yes. Low, High, Mid boost/cut with variable freq.

If by "differently" you mean between Series-2 circuit and Board 300, I think that the circuits have the same functions. The board has been re-engineered but in terms of voicing, I think Rob is the only person that can answer this question.

Alternatively, you can send me the two boards and I can run a frequency analysis :)

I don't think there is any crucial difference. You can find the other preamps in the SG web site under On-line shop/Active circuits.

Probably the one installed on your bass. As Rob told you, your bass has a Series-2 circuit installed – it was the standard circuit for that bass.
