From the knob closer to the fretboard:

the two bigger knobs:
- pickup balance
- volume

the three smaller knobs:
- treble
- middle frequency
- bass

the switch controls the gain of the middle frequencies: up=cut, middle=flat, down=boost.

I hope this helps.

This might require a separate thread but I noticed that many bass players tend to use on-board EQ as a way to control the overall sound. Often using massive boost to make the bass sound clearer and louder.

IMO, the KB has a beautiful sound with the EQ flat. It might be necessary to change the sound slightly but I struggle to understand why it is necessary to change the character of the instrument so much. If this is the case, why not using another bass in the first place? :o

Personally, I like control the sound using the EQ on my amplifier and I use the on-board EQ only to change the sound between tracks or when I change pick-up balance. Moreover, I noticed that cutting instead of boosting is often more effective.

Comments?

agree. i found i was having to fiddle with the Eq on my shark way too much and still didn't sound like i wanted it too so i went and bought a P-bass.
Now I realise that the shark has an amazing tone for other stuff. so i have two ace basses. me happy.

Cutting the mid will sound better to our ears as it will be more like the scooped Eq's we generally use in the UK. It wouldn't surprise me if the Yanks among us prefered to boost as US production generally boosts the mids. IMO you don't really need much mid on a bass anyway, top and bottom ends are more important.
