Status Smart Basses

Hello,
Does anyone know the reason the Smart basses were discontinued?
Did they not sell?
I know that it has a been a while since they dissapeared from the website, but I have always wanted to know what happened?
I have a Smart Bass 5 string fretless that I ordered in 2009 or so and I think it is a fantastic bass.... The concept was brilliant!
