This is a fairly early example of Bernie's work, when he was still operating as "Goodfellow" rather than as "GB".

Despite the "coffee table" looks, this is a seriously practical bass. The tones are rich and smooth and the range runs from near-P-bass thump to modern and bright. I neither slap nor tap so I can't offer any opinion on that. With the other controls properly set for your playing style, the only knob you ever need to touch on stage is the Pan control (the one with the wide brass ring around it).

The other controls are Volume, and below that Treble / Mid / Bass all of which are cut/boost with a central detente.

The usual little Bernie touches are there, including the thumbrest scoop on the tops of the pickups (why has no one else copied this idea?) and the wooden grips to the tuning machines. Fitted with Schaller straplocks.

Up close, the quilted maple top reminds me of snorkelling in The Bahamas and looking down at the sand a few feet below me. Poetic, or what?
