Re: Blocks or dots, bound /unbound
My S2 Classic 4-string has the optional Roman numeral epoxy inlays. Very cool!

There's nothing odd about a lined fretless. Grin

Ahh of course! I did see a very tasty Elrik frettless with a lovely inlaid pattern. I guess we don't see many frettless basses with anything apart from the odd lined bass.

Re: Blocks or dots, bound /unbound
I've never seen a status with block inlays? However I have just seen it as a custom option? This begs the question has anyone ever had it done? I love my 70's jazz bass that has a lovely bound neck and block inlays on maple. I guess on the phenolic Rob would use some kind of epoxy resin. A lot of statii are unmarked or dot necks...apart from mine (Those who don't know I have cat paws).

If I had another bass made I think I would condiser blocks or even a bound dotted neck!! So if you have an unusual config, lets see it!! I don't think it has been discussed before..to my knowledge but I'd be intersested in peoples thoughts as some people hate the blocks unless they are on a fender as to be fair, sometimes they look a bit odd on other basses except Mayones or Lakland, they seem to have got the look down.

Ahh and lets not leave out our fretless brothers.....

Re: New member... unknown bass
Hey everyone, new to the forum. I've had this bass for years and has been a revelation for me. I just don't know what it is.

Re: In praise of Status tapewounds
I've recently been using Tru Bass nylons by Rotosound, they are very nice, have a particular earthy sound and do in fact have a bit of bite if you dig in, cheap enough to buy just to try. I stuck them on my jazz bass but I'm tempted to now put them on an active bass. Go try a set I think they will suprise you!

Re: Status Jazz Necks
I think it has something to do with the molds used...i.e. probably haven't got one!I guess email Dawn and ask? I think it's a very relevant question as we are seeing more and more fender 5's played. I think there is a market for it, when I put a status neck on an old P it was a dream to play and well worth doing. Perhaps they just need a neck to model the mold off if anyone has one!

Re: Status Jazz Necks
Dear all,
I noticed that the section on Status replacement necks has been redone on their website.
Has anyone ever asked or know why Status does not offer graphite 5 -string replacement jazz necks. They do offer 5-string versions of the MM necks but not the Jazz neck....Why? Lack of demand?
I would definitely buy one right away
The only option left would be a Status 5 string T- Bass.
If anyone knows why, please fill me in.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Gordy basses look familiar... (???)
From what I can find, these basses were hand made by Gordon Whitham, ex partner in the Gordon Smith guitar business, in Manchester, England.

In 1979 Gordon Whitham and John Smith founded Gordon-Smith Guitars in Partington, near Manchester. Gordon Whitham left after a few years and moved on to making his Gordy guitars but Smith kept the business name and still produces quality instruments today.

Gordon Whitham made quite a few Gordys, there seem to be a lot of custom models out there. Gordy guitars worked out of the Coach House behind Volvo motors on Wash Way Road in Altrincham. But they aren't there now...

Seem to remember these.

100% Status rip off obviously.

Never seen or played one though!

Re: Gordy basses look familiar... (???)
Just came across this searching randomly. Handbuilt in the UK in 80's and beginning of 90's apparently... The shape is familiar from the bridge to the headless end of the neck!
Anyone knows the truth?

Re: Low-B on 32 inch / Bendwell necks
Go for it, think I played a 5 string and to be fair most players rarely bend above the D string unless you are some virtuoso hamonic bending demon! I don't think the scale length is a major issue to get over.

Re: Low-B on 32 inch / Bendwell necks
I have an opportunity to acquire a 6-string Stealth, but it's one which is equipped with the Bendwell option.

I've also enjoyed playing shorter scale basses, so the 32-inch scale would probably work in terms of ergonomics - but i'm not sure how the low-b would behave. Sadly - this would be a remote purchase, so "try and see" is not an option at the moment.

I've looked far & wide, and not found much information Status 5 and 6 strings with the bendwell. Indeed, I couldn't find a single Youtube or other sample clip.

So: for anyone who has owned/played a bendwell-equipped status 5/6 string - could you please share your experience? And of course, any sample clips that I might have missed would be most welcome.

Status are a small family run and owned business. They will get back to you, just not immediately.
