Re: Clip on tuners
Have you tried clipping it to the strap button?
Works for me (using the TCElectronics Polytune)

Re: Clip on tuners
Hi folks

Any ideas on how best to use clip on tuners on headless basses? I have an S2 and cannot really use my Korg tuner on it reliably, whereas on a headed instrument it works perfectly on the headstock

Thanks

Re: Looking for S2 #0186
Looking for Series 2 bass serial 0186. Just wondering what happened to her after all these years. She’d be in the US, at least that’s where I bought her. Was a long time ago. Never should have let that bass get away. Has a rather large chunk out of the paint down by the nut. Speaker fell on her. Anyway, if anyone has seen her...

Thanks in advance.

Re: Contact issues?
Les -

Not to worry - my new build arrived right on time and as promised. The bass is an absolute work of art - in some ways better than my prior Kingbass!

It didn't work with me, but I'll advise what others told me - "be patient, it's worth the wait!"

Re: Contact issues?
I would imagine they’re just struggling with the Covid thing.

The factory would have been closed for the past couple of months at least.

Be patient, they’ll get back to you I’m sure.

Re: Contact issues?
Is anyone else with an active order having difficulty getting a response from Rob and/or Dawn? I am at about 11 weeks since the order date (4/22) and have sent a couple of emails (starting with June 2nd) inquiring as to progress, but no response, whatsoever.

I do not wish to be a "pest" to them, so is it possible I am doing something wrong using either dawn@status-graphite.com or mail@status-graphite.com to reach the shop?

Any input anyone may have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Empathy / Series 2
Wow!
Thanks Moo, you are a truly Stauts connaisseur.
May I ask a last question, given that from your signature I can see that you have a couple of Empathy basses?
Central tone is walnut.
Book matched top and back is figured maple.
Body is mahogany.
What is the other thin slice of wood between maple and mahogany?
I know you know...

If you take the page 3 brochure of 1998 catalogue hosted on this site (http://statii.com/status_cats/catalogues/3/cat_1998status_page03.jpg), my bass looks pretty much like the figured maple Empathy but it has different pots' style (same number and position but different material).
If you take this other catalogue page (http://www.statii.com/status_cats/catalogues/17/right%20side.jpg) Series 2 and Empathy look really similar, the only difference I find is the "very choicest body wood" and the "9 coats of high gloss finish" on the Empathy.
Electronics are the same.
Do you confirm these are the only difference?

Apart from that example in Catalogue 17 there were 2 differences between a Series II and an Empathy.

1/ Empathy had 11 piece body compared to the 7 piece of the Series II (basically book matched on the back too)

2/ Upgraded electronics. The series II had 4 pots (Vol, Pickup, Bass/Treble cut & boost). The Empathy had very a early parametric EQ setup with either 3 pots at the bottom or the standard 4 pots with 2 'doubles'!

I've actually never seen a Series II with Empathy electronics from that time and I'm thinking it might have been something Rob did exclusively with a distributor in Japan (as this brochure is in Yen).

Re: TM Stevens S2
Great to hear. Looking forward to some decent pics.

Surprised it’s a Series II let alone an Empathy. This kind of artwork is normally done on a Series 2000!

I always use Fast Fret to clean the strings at the end of a gig, been doing this for 5 years on the KB with no problems on the fret board

Heres my bit of Inspector Clouseau work... Both the Ebay and reverb adverts were placed by Ashdown engineering (the amplifier manufacturer). TM Stevens worked with a French bassist called Pascal Mulot who is an Ashdown endorsee as part of a trio. My guess is that TM gave Pascal the S2, who subsequently gave it to Ashdown when he was working on his bass rig... Hmmm???... Until we meet again and the case is sol-ved Smile
