Is anyone else with an active order having difficulty getting a response from Rob and/or Dawn? I am at about 11 weeks since the order date (4/22) and have sent a couple of emails (starting with June 2nd) inquiring as to progress, but no response, whatsoever.

I do not wish to be a "pest" to them, so is it possible I am doing something wrong using either dawn@status-graphite.com or mail@status-graphite.com to reach the shop?

Any input anyone may have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Chris, Status currently have staff furloughed, so are running very light at the moment. Just as a measure, it took them 3 months from order to make my standard KB without any bells and whistles and fully staffed. Your new axe has some custom features and plus they are not fully staffed so is likely to take a little while yet. So sit tight, I am sure your bass is being created, it just may take a little while longer to get it finished.

Looking forward to seeing some pics when it does arrive.

Re: Not able to locate second hand - ordered new
I had been looking to replace the KingBass Artist (Series I) that I had previously owned, then sold a bunch of years ago, but was unable to find one. That being the case, I took the plunge and paid Rob (in full) for a new build, yesterday.

Here is what I ordered:

KingBass Artist, 4-string;
Figured walnut facing;
Mahogany back;
Standard 19mm string spacing;
Custom 32" scale with BendWell;
Gold Hardware (including knobs);
Blue LED’s (front and side), with red LED’s at the 12th position (front and side);
Front LEDs placed in standard position down the fingerboard;
Schaller strap locks

Now the roughly 4 month countdown begins!

Re: Two more on order, lessons learned
Both basses arrived in pristine condition this morning.
Pics will follow later today.

My initial impressions are hard to express in words. I didn't think it would be possible to improve on my last two but these basses are simply amazing and show that Rob is focused on continual improvement of his products.

There are several subtle improvements that just make the basses even better. The LED system, pre-amp and electronics, fit and finish all show show subtle but noticeable improvements.

Did I mention that the basses arrived in perfect tune? I plugged them in to my Peterson strobe tuner and they were both flawlessly in tune!
I couldn't believe it!

More impressions and pics will follow later today.

Thanks again to Rob, Dawn and all at Status Graphite!

Re: Two more on order, lessons learned
Ok, I stand corrected.

I just received a barrage of emails from FedEx stating that the packages had cleared US Customs and are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.

I'm cautiously optimistic!

Tomorrow could be a really, really good day.

More to follow.

Re: Two more on order, lessons learned
Both basses were shipped expeditiously from the UK to the US.
Then the problems started.

US Customs has had them since last Friday night. I had to submit a Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) statement via email to FedEx basically stating that I wasn't trying to import uranium, nerve gas, killer bees, human organs or any other hazardous material. I did that Saturday afternoon.

Dawn at Status also called and emailed FedEx over the weekend to verify that she had included 5 copies of all required international shipping documents and TSCA information.

Moving at the blazing speed of typical US Government employees, the paperwork apparently just got through to the Customs agents this afternoon.

At this rate, I may see them by the end of the month.

Re: Two more on order, lessons learned
A couple more weeks? Nope.
Dawn emailed me this morning that they will be shipping out TODAY.
I can't believe how quickly this process went.
The bass building gods must have smiled upon me. This process took less than 10 weeks.
Amazing.

Re: Two more on order, lessons learned
I received an email from Dawn a few days ago saying that my basses are already out of the spray/finish process and are in the assembly phase.
It may only be a couple more week until they're ready to ship!

Re: Two more on order, lessons learned
Having learning some valuable "the grass is always greener" lessons and experimenting with some other basses, I've come back to Status Graphite.

I put in an order for two Series III, headless, neck through, 5 string basses.

The first is a fretted with an alder body, highly figured ash top, black hardware and white wrap around LEDs.

The second is a fretless with an alder body, carbon fiber front and back, black hardware and a micro-lined fingerboard with red wrap around LEDs.

As always, Dawn and Rob have been fantastic during the ordering process and once again, the wait begins!

I look forward to the basses being completed around Christmas and I'll post pics when they arrive.

All the best to Status players everywhere!

Re: Deciding between an S-2 Bolt on and Streamline
Dear all,

I am all set to order an S-2 Bolt on 5 string bass. but I am now having second thoughts if I should get a Streamline bass instead.
I have always loved the look of the Streamline but never really took it seriously.
But because I travel a bit to play at different jazz venues and I already travel with my NS design electric upright bass, it might make sense to have a custom anvil case that would fit both the electric upright and a Streamline. It would be impossible to do that with a full size bass and paying the airlines to travel with two instruments is getting really expensive....
Can anyone comment on the sound differences between the S-2 and Streamline. I can not find any decent videos online of either one.
Living here in the US it is close to impossible to go check one out and play it.
It the Streamline too harsh sounding? Or just as warm and mellow as the S-2 can get?
I play mostly jazz so I would need a bass that can get the warm upright bass type of sound and the “jaco tone” from the rear pickup. I know other Status basses get those sounds with no problem.... But what about the Streamline?
I would love to travel lightly with the Electric upright and the Streamline, but not if it does not sound right....
Though this is not with a Status bass, it has a Status neck and this gets the jazz type sounds perfectly.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Re: Help with deciding top wood for an S-2
Yes, you are right. That will be the best thing to do.
I just don’t like any of the s-2 basses that are up on the website. That is why I had hesitated to email him about it....
Thanks!

Dear all,
I have decided to order an bolt-on S2 5 string.
I need help deciding which top wood to go with.
The back wood will be 2-piece mahogany (no center tone block). The hardware will be black.
Somehow I don’t like the look of basses where the top wood is a different color than the body wood. I don’t know why but I much prefer when the entire instrument has the same color.... But I also prefer satin wood over anything else....
I do acknowledge that some of the top woods Status uses are stunning.
Can somebody help me decide which top top wood would match the color of the mahogany body?
I do want mahogany body because my Status Smart bass is solid mahogany and I love everything about that bass.
Rob replied that building another Smart bass or an Eclipse bass is not an option. That machines are not set up to do it any more.

Is a flamed or figured mahogany top an option?
Has anybody done a figured top that closely matches the color/tint of mahogany?

Many thanks in advance!
-Chris

Just ping Rob and ask him to match the colour of the body. Maybe have a slightly different wood but roughly the same colour!

Rob is the man to talk to about this!

Re: Help with deciding top wood for an S-2
I had a dark walnut facing wood in a satin finish for my KB. I wanted a dark wood that provided a little contrast with the mahogany back wood. Saying that, I have seen some rosewood tops that looked great as well. I almost had Rosewood, however it was a cost I had not allowed for the my budget. In the end I told Dawn what I was looking for and she picked from their stock of Walnut and made a great choice.

Thanks so much for the pictures. The calico mahogany looks great.... now you showed me another option.... red color tint on the satin finish.... that looks great as well!

Yes, I am thinking that over. I do like the exotic wood tops, but just not when there is a change of color....
Thanks!
