Re: S2 neckthrough :)
Looks like a Series 2. Have a look through 'Catalogues & more in the link at the top of this page. As for serial number, is there anything stamped on the side of the bridge? Or even inside the control cavity.

Re: S2 neckthrough :)
Old headed "trussrod-less" neckthrough S2 is home! Or maybe an Empathy one? Is there really a difference between S2 and Empathy basses?

Does anyone know where I can find a serial number? I have no idea of its production date.

Did a bit of cleaning and checking batteries. 19 (nineteen) 9V batteries in 5 basses !!

They're all in good health and ready to be played. Wink

Re: Status Energy 5 headless graphite
In the status website, if you go to on line shop and active circuits there are pictures of all the circuit types, that should give you an idea if the electronics have changed. There seem to be two types used on the energy, the 'Board 100' and the 'Energy'. Your pictures do not look like the latter. Saying that it does not look like the former either.

Controls should be volume, centre notched pan and a centre notched treble cut and boost.

Looking at your picture you seem to have a 220k Linier pot in the tone location. Which is strange as in the active circuit descriptions, the energy had either a 10k or 100k linier cut boost. The 220k was used for the pick up balance

I might be wrong (and often am) but methinks someone has been playing with the wiring on your bass

Re: Status Energy 5 headless graphite
Hello,

Can you Energy owners confirm some things about this bass?

- Are these the original electronics?
- Is this the right order of controls? First balance, in the middle volume and near the input tone?
- The tone control does'nt work anymore, it stays on bright. What can be the problem?

Thanks in advance

^Thanks for the embed!

I like the brightness of the roundwound sound so keeping the current strings would be satisfying. Not sure about the granitic nature of the S1 fingerboard though, since it has obviously not been played that often but still shows some wear... What will occur with my not-delicate-at-all playing style? Shock

Re: Another Status at home! S1 classic 5er (lined fretless)
If it's a phenolic finger board then it will be as hard as granite, well nearly. That would take rounds if you wanted. Other than that it depends on your taste in tone. If you like a bright tone use rounds. Mid to bright, try half rounds/ground wounds. If you like a dark tone go for flats. Flats might seem expensive to buy but they last for years which makes them much more cost effective.

Video below gives examples of rounds, flats and half wounds on a phenolic finger board. Skip to 1.55 to miss out the talky bit.

Re: Another Status at home! S1 classic 5er (lined fretless)
So, it arrived! My first fretless, and my second bass, the other being a Series II bought 10 years ago. I have to get used to the head, it is so strange!

Absolutely stunned by the playability of the beast, it's like cheating! It hurts to say that but... it feels even easier than the good old Series II.
The low B is strong and clear and the sound is way punchier than I thought.

Here with the old sister (1988 Series II #425):

(nope, it's not me in the center)

Condition is very good, the only flaw I see is the fingerboard wear. It does'n't affect the playability, in fact it's nothing you can feel touching the fingerboard but looking at it you can clearly see at some places the consequences of roundwound strings, which I did'n't realize when buying:

I will replace the strings asap, any advices? I'm a fretless newbie, so absolutely no idea what would be the best and what is acceptable or not in terms of fingerboard wear.

Re: What model is it????? :)
Yes, I have a master volume (I can pull up the knob I think to switch from "active" to "passive" mode), a blender, for PU, a sort of midrange booster and the double knob on the edge that cut/boost hi and low.
The sound is impressive, very "present" and warm but, with some adjustment, I can find a similar sound of my 4003 Ric... I think I've been lucky... Grin

Re: What model is it????? :)
Status preamps are usually on fixed boards not loose like yours. The Eclypse has a small switch which I don't remember the use. Probably a mid switch of sorts. The Eclypse control layout is different to yours. The three inner knobs on yours follow the pattern of an Energy with the added pot nearest the edge of the body. Have a look at the pics in 'Catalogues & more' above.

I've always though that a preamp upgrade would make an Energy a fantastic bass to have. The original Energy pre only had an active treble control, no bass or mid controls, so your pre should make the bass top notch. It certainly looks a good buy.

Re: What model is it????? :)
Thanks!!
What is the main difference between Energy and Eclipse?
I thought it was an Eclipse because of the 4 control knobs...
