Interesting choice of strings.

The bass (in my 4yr experience) needs double ball, in order to really apply pressure in the bend well, The grub screws are very good, but as a system have also failed - in the the coil of string which rips, stretches is compromised.
But I can’t get Rotosound SBL. So I’d take any companies which offer bright stainless steel WITH double ball, and suited properly to 32inch scale

Re: KingBass Demo
Hello members,

The Status KingBass & Mark King’s slap technique were together - the core influence on this full scale production (which on bass demos a scoop eq; a light string set, MK chorus (mono) & accurate 16ths).

The KingBass is a subject specific instrument, and it would be great to hear more of them in use; and more players — who can execute proper technique on it.

Re: S2 headless 5string Info Please
Hi

My S2 5 string is SN 41. I had a brief chat to Dawn at Status, who suggested it would be 85/86 ish.

Kind Regards

Re: S2 headless 5string Info Please
I am not sure, but your S2 5-string has a low serial number. Status begann to produce 5-string basses from the mid 80's I believe, so your S2 could be built in 1986/87...best thing would be to drop Status a line via email and ask.

Re: S2 headless 5string Info Please
Hi
Does anyone have any info on the chronology of the S2 -I am trying to date my beloved bass.

Its serial number 46, five string, headless, graphite through neck. Don't know the wood finish, but its a beauty!!

(apologies, not sure how to add pictures to this thread otherwise I'd show you)

Cheers
Neil

Re: New kid on the block, whats the axe I got?
"Since I saw Frank with his strata (and the touch),...."

Hi whitewater, I remember seeing Frank Itt with the Touch live in 1984 in Hannover with him playing his Strata. I taped a radio broadcast of the gig. Let me know via PM if you want to have the mp3 files as I converted it to CD.

Cheers,
Stefano

Hi @Garbo28 that seems to make sense. Could you tell me, why definitly an S4000, not S5000? Did not manage to find out the difference between these two.
As said, I'm sure, I'll go a long way with that thing, for its ugly (especially compared to it's wood-porn siblings), it's weird and it feels one of a kind. And of course, the sound is like back to the future when living in the 80ies Grin

I maybe wrong (and often am) but I believe the S5000 was a 5 string model, whereas the S4000 was a 4 string (which from your photos it seems to be). They do have a great sound, you are right in saying very 80's, however I used mine with a variety of pedals and amps and managed to play all sorts of material with it. It is a pity I never recorded with it, but my KB has always been the preference in that situation.
