odd that I dropped onto this thread after a long time away. Looking at the Alembics... I went to see Stanley Clarke the other night at Ronnie Scotts. He was as you'd expect him to be, amazing.
He played mostly double bass but he did a few performances on the Alembics. They sounded incredible and of course he slapped the hell out of them!

That is indeed a very impressive collection!

Interesting choice of strings.

The bass (in my 4yr experience) needs double ball, in order to really apply pressure in the bend well, The grub screws are very good, but as a system have also failed - in the the coil of string which rips, stretches is compromised.
But I can’t get Rotosound SBL. So I’d take any companies which offer bright stainless steel WITH double ball, and suited properly to 32inch scale

My S2 5 string is SN 41. I had a brief chat to Dawn at Status, who suggested it would be 85/86 ish.

Also trying to revive our old Status serial numbers database, so hold tight !

I am not sure, but your S2 5-string has a low serial number. Status begann to produce 5-string basses from the mid 80's I believe, so your S2 could be built in 1986/87...best thing would be to drop Status a line via email and ask.
