Re: Which small combo?
If you want to hyper portable, I am very happy with my Phil Jones Double Four... I wished to have it bought before. It works for small ensembles, but not if you have a powerful drummer and a wall of guitars to fight (in which case, I'd anyway advise to go well above the mentioned 100W). It is 75W solid state and is very light.

Here a comparison with some other micro combos...

Re: Which small combo?
Looking for something up to 100w, what would you guys recommend for my s4000, what are you using? (I’m looking for that classic slap kinda sound) I’ll be looking 2nd hand (on a bit of a budget) btw my other bass is a Duesenberg!

Sounds like a sensible thing to spend your money on for your retirement Smile . The answer depends on what you want from the rig, but the man himself (MK) uses a TC rig. Granted his Blacksmith head and RS Cabs are probably a little much for bedroom playing, but they make smaller rigs, in fact on youtube he demos a BH800 head with K-Series cabs and a KB with Parametrics which could be helpful to your decision. I have used TC, Trace and Ashdown rigs with my KB (though granted it is not a Parametric version) and all have their plusses and minuses. At the moment I quite like the sounds you can get out an Aguilar amp (but have yet to try one)

What I would suggest (which is what I did do when I had my new KB in my hands) was go to the best equipped music shop I could find and then play loads of combinations of heads, cabs and combos and find out what I liked the sound of. It doesn't matter what anyone elses opinion is, it has to sound good to your ears. Good luck and enjoy the process.

Re: Need advice : amplifying your Status
I started years ago with Eden and Markbass 2x12. You have to like the Eden sound, especially the enhance section. I "upgraded" to Eden WT550 (hybrid) with Eden 4x10. Great sound with my Ibanez and Carvin basses. Last year I ordered my first Status. S2 headless/through-neck. Awesome bass but I couldn´t get the right sound with my Eden set. Every amp manufacturer has its own sound but I was looking for an amp that offers me the pure Status sound. I tried Orange, Ampeg, Bergantino, Eich, Mesa and finally ended with Glockenklang. Blue Sky with Take 5 Neo. Wow - what a combination. Pure and powerfull.

Re: Need advice : amplifying your Status
Last year I bought a lovely 1986 S2000 with GMT pickups- I've used a Markbass 4x10 rig for the last ten years,a superb amp setup capable of any style.
With my other early 90s Status bass and jazz etc,it needed very little eq to get a "fat sound."The Markbass amp has a basic eq section with a pair of filters-it's generally easy to get the sound you're looking for.
The first time I played my S2000 through it,I found it lacking in usual amount of bottom end and the mid range was extremely prominant-a far cry from "back in the day" balanced sound I recalled through my old Trace rig.
I did a bit of thinking and picked up a MXR ten bend eq pedal...an 18v,decent quality unit.Put it between the bass and amp and "BANG"...a bit of low end boost, mid cut-similar to the old Trace "smile" presest EQ curve and there it was....the exact mid range, controlled growl and top end cutting sound I knew was there, unique to the S2000.
The older Status basses have a very different, mor aggressive tone to the new kit (in my opinion)...the S2000 now sounds exactly how I remember it and is a joy to gig with and play.
Hope this helps and good luck Smile

Re: Need advice : amplifying your Status
Can't go wrong with many of the new D class amps. Mark Bass, Aguilar, TC electronics. All super nice. My advice would be to get a Tech 21 NYC Bass driver DI pedal, Makes any amp sound better!

Re: Need advice : amplifying your Status
Hello all,

I recently purchased a late 1980's S2000, and tried it during my two last rehearsals.
It's very nice to play, but I have several issues with the sound : it's very raw, I would even qualify it as "creaking" (at home she sounds nice but I don't play that loud).

It's probably due to the small 100W Hartke combo available in the rehearse room (I tried all the possible settings to correct it).
But my P-Bass Plus sounds pretty nice on it.

I'm considering replacing my own amplification device, and I need advices.

What are the brands/series/models/settings that get on particularly well with our Status active basses, according to you ?

I like Trace Elliot very much. Markbass looks interesting but never tried any of them.

Any advice ?

Re: What amp ?
The TC RS750 along with a Bergantino NV610T seems to complement my status basses well. Been curious to try a Bergantino B-amp head though!

Re: What amp ?
Eagerly waiting for the delivery of my new Status bass I am looking to buy a new bass head. I use a Barefaced Super Twin cab (1200 watts) any suggestions ? Favourite at the moment is an Orange OB 1 500.

Re: Ashdown Superfly
Hi folks

Does anyone have an Ashdown Superfly that they would be willing to part with? I've been after one for a while and I thought I'd ask the question!

Inbox me if you do!

Best Wishes

Re: Lightweight heads
I've been through a few crunch type pedals of late and never really getting a great sound through a cab. I tried MXR, Boss, EHX and finally ended up happy with this, the old saying, you get what you pay for! They are pricey but one hell of a sound.

Re: Lightweight heads
I have an EA Micro http://www.eaamps.com/products-detail...p?REC_ID=1
and a Barefaced Super Midget http://barefacedbass.com/product-rang...Midget.htm

They are small and light enough (just over 10kg together) to put them both in a Roqsolid bag. With the bag over one shoulder, a bass over the other I am ready for most gigs.

There is a not very recent photo of them in use (with my Manne Acustibass) here:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...mp;theater

I chose the EA because it is extremely transparent while most other amps I tried rather coloured the sound of the Manne - the two input channels are also useful when switching between fretted and fretless instruments.

I will say however that I also tried the Aguilar ToneHammer 500 and liked it very much indeed: not as transparent as the EA, but very pleasant, usable tones and very, very loud.

Re: Lightweight heads
I managed to get a little 4 ohm Eden 1x12. It's very punchy! Twin cone light as a feather cab. Very impressed, check them out!
