Few questions about the ol' S2 series from niaeve little me Wink From what I can see, the difference between the S2 bolton and S2 Through neck is (apart from the obvious), Natural satin vs High gloss and whether you get a facing wood or not. Now - by the latest pricings, there's a £500 difference for those options. I think I would be happy enough with the Satin finish (high gloss just shows up too much grease under auditorium lights) and the facing wood i'd want could just be added to the bolton-model with a little extra cost. So basically it all boils down to the neck. It'd be a 5 string headless, plain fretless, I'm not sure if the bolton would be any great disadvantage since I'm not looking for sustain (the music I'm playing is quite fast, concise notes - rather than anything being held for more than a minum at most) Also, if anyone has a Status with this "natural satin" finish - could they post a few pictures so I can see what its like? Will give more info or other such tomfoolery if you need it Smile Cheers

Aye, that's more what I'd be looking for... something that doesnt look like it'll chip too easily! And wouldnt be too hard to fix back to new condition myself should it get chipped or knocked.

the Kingbass is quite marked up, the satin finish looks much better than high gloss, but at the end of the day is not very tough.

Finish is a matter of pesonal taste. I prefer the high gloss and it is, I think, more durable. The gloss finish on my Empathy is still excellent many years down the line and adds something special to the burr walnut finish. I am not sure the satin finish would prove to be as hardwearing. Whatever you chose let's see some pictures when you get it!

Grin Wont be for a good long while yet so don't get your hopes up! Possibly (Cash permitting) will go to the factory to pick the facing wood when I'm over for the L42 show.

My Eclipse has the satin finish. When I first got the bass I mistook it for a very well applied oil finish, however Rob set me straight on that in a subsequent email exchange. I really like the satin finish, my bass dates from '97 and the finish seems to have held up very well. One advantage the satin has I think is that it doesn't show finger prints and such and doesn't reflect stage lighting near as much as the gloss finish. As Status has said; finish is a matter of personal taste. Smile
