Here's the problem guys and girls. On my Empathy I used Elixir Nanoweb strings and loved them. I now have a 5 string bass and I can't find 5 string sets of Elixirs! Aaaaargh. I don't like strings that are too bright and would appreciate suggestions of a suitable 5 string alternative? Cheers

There are 5-string Elixir Nanoweb string sets out there, so if that's what you want, why not just order it on the net? Smile

Oh right. I looked at Stringbusters and Strings Direct and didn't see them on there. Next question then: Anyone know somewhere that stocks them?

Do you not like the hotwires?

Only ever tried the halfwounds which I had on my old Shark. I plan to get another set of those for the new Shark as they suited the bass really well.

Why dont you try some flatwounds.

Well the halfwounds sounded great and were a good compromise between rounds and flats. As you know I don't like my strings to be too bright!

They have them at www.stringthis.com I think Smile Yup: http://www.stringthis.com/elixir-5strelbass-nano.html And at Juststrings.com they recommend buying a 4-string set and then add the B or C string (which ever you prefer... or if you play 6) from the single string page. I've ordered from both, and I think I prefer stringthis.com. Friendly communication and quick and cheap shipping. Juststrings have pretty high shipping costs, but it's a flat rate so if you stock up for a while, it won't get to expenssive per set. Smile

Chris, you can get Status Hot Wires as Halfwound or Black Nylon.
