Hi, phew, the waiting is as bad as reported here…
I got an update from Rob that my bass was lacquered, and is expected to be ‘flatted and polished’ next week. I can only guess what flatted means in this context. Anyone? We are two nations divided by a common language I hear. Probably, high or rough spots on the lacquer are smoothened flat. I don't want to pester the man while beautiful basses are being made.

Sounds like you bass is a couple of weeks away from being completed if all goes well ;)

They put a huge quantity of lacquer on these basses and it probably looks like a big dull gooey globule of a bass. The lacquer is then flatted back and hand polished to get the mirror finish you're expecting.

A highly skilled job, one slip and the whole bass needs to be refinished :o
