Hi,
Mark seems to have a new control layout on his king basses, see for example here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfdC2y...fdC2yJweJA or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1XKAR...1XKARygAK0

Seems to be 8 (!) knobs over all even on "modded" 30th anniversary basses ...

Ah, I see you are new here. Welcome to the forum.

That is not just a new control layout but a new bass (another one). It was shown at the London Bass Guitar Show in March. It has the Paramatrix EQ on it. Endless control of endless frequencies.

Totally missed that one (the bass and the thread). Anyone have more information on that "thing"? What are the controls really for?

So ... makes:
- volume
- balance
- treble
- bass
- 2x freq
- 2x gain (boost/cut)

and there's these nifty little switches, I guess that's for splitting the coil ... hmmm, interesting ...

In simple terms quoting Rob...

"Mark's sound was getting more and more 'trebly' trying to find a unique sound. I created the new parametrics to give him a whole new range of sounds!"

Or something like that, I dunno, I wasn't really paying attention!

I see the treacherous MK has gone back to Rotosound strings now!!!!!
Who's going to keep using hotwires to get 'his' sound? Knobber, I'm still going to use hotwires, better value for money for sure!

The only way to get the new Mark King sound is with Rotos:

Bright and zingy for the first verse
A bit dead by the chorus
E string completely dead by the second verse
All strings dead by the second chorus and bit out of tune
Broken D string by the end of the song.

It'll keep his guitar tech busy for sure.

Smells a little odd......

My favourite character trait of the Rotosounds was their ability to RAPIDLY munch through frets.
