I thought after being a Status owner for damn near 28 years I should sign up to the Mothership and say hello.

My first Status was a Series II 4 string fretted (I think number 75). I bought it from the Bass Centre back in the 80s (83-4???) when I was playing with a Glasgow Soul type band called Sunset Gun.

After moving bands (to Horse) and signing with Capitol in '87 I rather impetuously decided that I needed a rockier sounding bass and sold the Status (aaaaggggh) and bought a Musicman Stingray 4.

I was Statusless for a few years. I'd love to know what happened to number 75. I had Musicman Stingray 5 fretless for a while and hated it - it hardly ever came out the house. The good old Bass Centre came to my rescue in the 90's (I can't remember what year exactly - '99?) and did a direct swap - my Musicman fretless for a rather beat up secondhand Status Series II fretless 4 (number 83). I love this bass and it's pretty much the only bass that I use now. It could do with a new coat of lacquer and the electrics being cleaned up/replaced but this hasn't stopped it giving me 12 or so years of total bass satisfaction.

I'm liking my Stays these days and I'm going to try to find a Status 5 Series II fretted and try to persuade someone to swop for my 89 Stingray 5.
