Hi Robert, welcome to the forum!

Enjoy the oldie, I hope you can restore it. I know there are a bunch of good luthier in TX. I'm not sure what difference makes to work on phenolic boards vs wooden ones but make sure he knows what to do.

Why not keep it fretless? The phenolic board produces a fretless sound like no other fingerboard.

That's a great looking bass. It doesn't look like the best defret job though. I remember a past thread talking about a refret of a phenolic board and Rob's suggestion was just replace the whole board.

Case - Originally they were supplied in flight cases. Very nice BUT an original would be falling apart now (I have 3). Just a Hiscox case http://www.hiscoxcases.com/standardgu...hiscox.htm would be best. If you measure it I think it is one of the guitar ones not bass that fits best.

As for the fretboard... Best ask Rob for best advice on that one. I know there are many people who can work on them so shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Another question I have about #238. It has the larger headpiece on it and I was wondering about what year they did the switch from the small headpiece? I was assuming my bass was from 1985 but it could be later?

They switched late '85 I think. My first one with the larger headpiece is Feb '86

hmmmm

My Series II #147 is from 1984 too and has the smaller head piece!Looks like it might have been '84 then! Lots earlier than I thought!

I would ask Rob but I don't think he remembers back that far!

Unfortunately I don't know the exact month my 2000 was made. It's #84 as a guide.

Well, moo, you'll just have to keep buying old Statii cause Rob isn't going to make any new ones for you after that comment. :D

Good info! How does one find out the exact year of their basses? I was just assuming mine was 1985 judging by the serial numbers on the databass.

We've tried to compile a database BUT would be great to get solid info from Rob on this.

Rob... ROOOOOOOOOOOB!

Hi deluxe,
I've got a s/h series 2 bass which I picked up from Martin at the bass gallery back in 2003 - No 234. I had it serviced /set-up by Rob at Status back in 2004 and Dawn told me it was a 1986 bass if that's any help (yours is #238)...they probably left the factory around the same time?
Mine is a (well looked after) bubinya top/ash body, with the passive/active indicator led as is yours.

They are simply amazing basses & I'll never part with this one....funny thing was when I went to the Gallery back in 2004, I had the choice of 3 Status Series 2 basses....spent 4/5 hours trying them all out before telling Martin which one I wanted to leave with :)

I've also got a B-2 ...that's freaking awesome as well!!

I have a Series 2000 (larger headpiece) serial no #86 and Dawn told me it left the factory in January 1986.

That brings into question whether or not mine is from 1984 then. Hmm!

Why not email them and ask? They volunteered the information when I sent my brass
hardware down for a clean up.

Best wishes
Aidan
