One of our extremely talented members has a gig coming that you should definitely get out to see!!!

There are a couple of clips on this link and information about tickets. Great venue and the music has the golden stamp of approval from Thomas Dolby himself!

Yep, good on ya Darren. The final vocal sounds better than the ones I recorded for you on Airwaves. Should be a great gig, I hope to make it but may be away diving that week :) :(

I suppose the question all here will want to know...what bass will you use?

GAOW is one of my favorite albums EVER!!! I remember buying it in 1995 when I was only 16 and fell in love with it instantly. The band sounds absolutely amazing and about time we got a Dolby cover band. Is that a Status being played on Commercial Breakup? Would definitely see them if they come to Dubai. ()

Very cool, the personal seal of approval from the weird man himself. I am sure for those intending to go to both shows will have an amazing time. Darrens attention to detail will be second to none, can someone lend him some of those crazy flight goggles?:D

Hi folks

haven’t posted here in a while but it’s the usual excuse of having more work than life! And the ‘Golden Age…’ event has taken some planning too…

Todd, thanks a million for the shout on this… I can always count on your support. Hopefully you can make it over in February… it’d be great to see you again! If you think I’m lending you Hayley though, you’re much mistaken. :)

For those who are interested (who haven’t yet visited our site: http://www.the-pirate-twins.co.uk), the gig is a tribute to Thomas Dolby’s seminal album, ‘The Golden Age of Wireless’. The band (called ‘The Pirate Twins’) consists of myself on bass and vocals… and Andrew Down on keys and programming.

Essentially we’re performing the entire album, in its original running order. We maintain the feel and sounds of the original tracks but the show will be threaded with a narrative which will expand on Thomas’s initial themes.

And I have to say, Thomas, himself, has been amazing. We’ve been working closely with him, with regard to song arrangements… and there are other surprises in store (which I can’t mention here). If you’re a fan of his work, you could do far worse than buy a ticket for our show.

He’s blogged about us recently here.: http://blog.thomasdolby.com/

An amazing write-up!

If you visit our website, you can read more about the event… and listen to a couple of the tracks we’ll be performing. We’ve been really lucky to have Mick Lister (an old friend of mine) do the post-production, mixing and mastering on ‘Airwaves’. Mick is a writer/producer who has worked with Bad Company, Amy Winehouse, Nik Kershaw and Steve Balsamo, amongst others. He’s currently working with Hugh Padgham.

And if anyone is interested in some fantastic but inexpensive mastering of their recordings, there’s always Ronnie of Statii fame, or Chris Leary who mastered ‘Commercial Break-up’ for us.

It’s going to be a really exciting event but bear in mind space is limited… so get your tickets ASAP!

And to keep this thread on track… Todd is right, I played my Jonas Hellborg Status on ‘Commercial Break-up’. Love that bass! I’ll be using that plus the MKII at the show.

Danny… with this much notice, you’d bloody better be at the gig! :)

Cheers,

Darren.
