Hi everyone! I've been reading this board for a few weeks, ever since deciding to go take the plunge in the Status river. Now my last and biggest hurdle is converting some of my current equipment into my dream bass (the talking myself into doing it part wasn't hard at all, especially after reading all the rave reviews here and elsewhere!)

I'm selling 2 of my basses that bordered on being my ultimate - #1 is a 6 string Warwick Thumb (w/side LEDs), and #2 is a Steinberger XL5N (5 string narrow)
Roll these two into one bass and I'm either going to have a Stealth headless 6 string (w/side LEDs) or the new Streamline 5 string (w/side LEDs).

Thoughts?

Ha! You're right - how could I be so newbish?

I'll try, but I warn you, the pics I have aren't so great - I have a friend coming over soon to help me with his digital magic...

The bass has Bartolini Pickups and the knobs are vol/Blend/Stacked Hi-Lo Tone. Swivel plate and battery cover are intact, not missing like so many I've seen for sale.

What are you asking for the Steinie?
Oh, and about Todd.....when he downs more than a 12 pack he tends to make everything in bold type! :D

Welcome ricstave...its always good to have another member from this side of "the pond" on the board. Good luck with the sale of the basses, you won't regret getting a Status. I'd recommend a Kingbass, but then I've never played a Streamline...you might ask Rick (Damn Yank) about his. He has both models (as do others here of course), and could give some comparison opinions.

Oh, since it's a "all about ME, the new guy" forum, here goes on the other stuff....

I've been playing bass for about 30 years now, everything from classic and prog rock to musicals to disco.

Here are some addys to some of my current bands:

www.thediscoduckband.com (Disco dance band)
www.wunderlandmusic.com (mostly cover classic/prog)
www.initiationmusic.com (original prog)

I also dabble in synths, samplers, sequencers and guitar - have always been a Geddy fan and my 1st synth was a set of Moog Taurus, followed by a Minimoog.

For bass amplification gear I use Bergantino IP series cabs (1-12 w/extension) and have a few different preamps including Line6 Pod Pro XT, ADA MB-1 & Boss VF-1.

I'm a Libra, enjoy beer and Jack Daniels, and dig chicks who dig music and bass players.

Ric,

I see your bass has a few more days to climb up the charts. I would've nabbed it myself if I was into 5 stringers! But alas, I still haven't mastered 4.. :D

When you call Rob or Dawn (she answers the phone most of the time when I call), tell them that Rick from NC referred you and they'll add 10% to the price. My little way of helping. :)

Alright by me, Ric. I'll get my commission some other way.

I just checked out your bio and band pages.....all 4 of them! Really, really nice stuff. I'm partial to Zeppelin, so I was definitely enjoying "The Immigrant Song" with Coda. Tastefully done.

I got a hoot out of the Disco Duck. The clothes and hairstyles had me in stitches. You had the crowd in the palm of your hand.

The Initiation web page rocked. Nice artwork. And I couldn't help but notice the cool lighting and logo of Wunderland. Big stages are nice, aren't they?

You went to Berklee? Not bad credentials for a "Dirty White Boy".

So, how do you find time for anything else?

Thanks for taking the time to look at all that, Rick!

As it goes these days, Disco Duck is my 'main' band - we do about 100 shows a year - 1-3 a week.

Initiation hasn't played much at all lately, but the guitarist is in a few of the other bands with me.

wünderland was my main project from about 1990-2002, and then in 2006 the guys who were with me be in 1993 asked if I wanted to do a 'reunion show' with that lineup - that turned into about 4 shows a year.

Coda also only plays about 4-5 times a year, so we are able to work everything in.

Over the past 10 years or so I have also been involved in a few other tribute projects:

"Black Out" (Scorpions Tribute) - played bass, synth & sampler pedals and some guitar and vocals

"Anarchy-X" (Queensryche) - bass, synths and vocals

"Back Stabbath" (Black Sabbath) - played synths , guitar and vocals

"Strange Days" (Doors) - bass and vocals

None of these were at the same time, except for the Coda/Back Stabbath show we did one time, and I also played a wünderland show where Initiation opened. The biggest problem with those is not having enough time to get to the bar......

Hey Ric,

"Disco Duck" looks like great fun! Let face it; Some of the greatest bass-lines of all time have come from this genre. Keep up the good work.

Best regards,

Thanks Dave!

Funny thing, when we started the band, we were having a hell of a time finding a guitar player - we had one guy who started with us but wouldn't learn the songs, so every rehearsal I was learning his parts and teaching him, til I finally had enough and told the drummer we had to fire him. It got to the point where I almost considered playing guitar in the band and looking for a bass player, but I quickly came to my senses and knew I couldn't give up all those fun bass parts!

A few years back, I actually DID leave the band for a while, and then ended up filling in on either bass or guitar occassionally, until the bass player left and I decided I might as well come out of the closet again and profess my love for dancing girls..... so I returned permanently on bass.
