How about jockeys, boxers, y-fronts, thong or commando? :o ;)

Or on a more serious note:

Clear finish to let the wood show, tinted but still transparent, solid finish or metallic/other fancy finish.

Another thought for a topic is favourite bass player. I know there would have to be a somebody else section but I am sure we could come up with 7 or 8 contenders for the poll.

Gathering your various thoughts ... how about the November poll is ... What bass effects can you not live without?. Instead of brand names would suggest a list such as EQ, Preamp, Chorus, etc.

I wouldn't be so sure about that!

Wow, difficult to debate ...

No doubt playing any form of instrument is a feat in itself. As to who plays best that is very personal and I would never venture to say “this guy is the best bass player...” or “this one is the best guitar player …”. Using google with the keyword "best bass player" returns 40’600 pages :o

From activebass.com which really says it all … as Mark King is not even listed!
http://www.activebass.com/help/faq-ba...bass.asp#2

<< There are several names that always come up whenever this question is asked. Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, seem to be mentioned the most, although we all have our one favorite - the one player that really inspired us to take up the bass guitar. Here is a list, in no particular order, of the "most favorite" bass players listed over the years here on A.B.

* Dee Murray
* Jack Bruce
* Jaco Pastorius
* Les Claypool
* Krist Novoselic
* Billy Sheehan
* Flea
* Matt Freeman
* Charlie Migus
* Justin Chancellor
* John Entwistle
* Mark Hoppus
* Cliff Burton
* Stuart Hamm
* John Patitucci
* Paul McCartney
* James Jamerson
* Mike Mills
* Nic Seymour
* Paul Simonen
* Bruce Thomas
* Bruce Foxton
* Bill Wyman
* Antony Jackson
* Vic Wooten
* Stanley Clarke
* Mike Inez
* Marcus Miller
* Steve Harris
* Cliff Burton
* Roger Waters
* Feildy
* Del Puerto
* John Myung
* Santerre
* Louis Johnson
* Donald "Duck" Dunn
* Verdine
>>

From bassinside.com of January 2003:
<< Mark King is one of a very select group of bassists that can make slapping fit into a tune without it detracting from the music or sounding like a perpetual solo. In fact, he has it down to the point where you know he is generating a whirlwind of notes and percussion, but somehow it doesn´t clutter. Instead, it just locks the whole song together. He is also one of a very few that can still make it sound fresh and interesting. On top of all the ´fast and furious´, sits this great voice, just made for the radio. >>
http://www.bassinside.com/2003/januar...y/king.htm

and there are thousands of opinions out there ...

Mark King’s drum playing background certainly has a great deal to do with his playing style and with the fact he can actually sing while playing complex bass lines (see Retroglide: Sleep Talking, which some of us saw live only a few days ago).

Lastly, the reason why Mark King’s name does pop up often here is because he is one of the few musicians that made Status-Graphite what it is today; and I quote Rob from his website << The finest hand-made graphite basses and guitars. Made in England >>, for our playing pleasure!

The good news is we can all be our favorite bass players at anytime so cheer up now and go and play bass B)

Andre

PS. Our polling system only allows 10 choices so I guess “Who is your favorite bass player” would be a difficult one  but we are open to a 10 name list!

Les Claypool is not a good bassist - he is in no way musical. The whole Claypool/Primus thing is just noise for the sake of it, in my opinion.

I did suggest "favourite" rather than "best" as it was intended to be a personal choice thing rather than subjective test of some sort.

probably too vast a subject, most answers will probably be others, had an idea though, could find out if there is any common ground regarding statii enthusiasts occupations. or another idea, other interests, any views on how these could work?

What about 'Bass players that really annoy you'!!!

that should be an easier list to compile!
