I have a Status Series 2000 and have a question about battery lifetime. Must I always unplug the bass to not drain the battery, or will the active/passive switch cut off the battery when turned off (passive mode) ? How much longer will the battery last when used in passive mode versus active?

As long as the jack is plugged in, the circuit is working. This is the same on ALL Status basses. The switches generally modify the EQ or switch parts of the circuit in/out but the circuit is always on.
Most Status basses have at least hundreds of hours battery life and some get into a couple of thousand hours so there is no big panic about the battery going flat overnight.
